Preparing For Your Launch Party

Making a Parachute
- Heavy-duty garbage bag
- Hole puncher
- Reinforcing rings
- Hexagon pattern (quilting pattern)
- Exacto knife
- Scissors
Print out the hexagonal pattern. Cut out the pattern. Place the pattern on cardboard, and trace and cut out the cardboard. Use the cardboard pattern to cut out a hexagon out of the garbage bag.
Use a hole puncher to punch a hole in all 6 Corners.
Place reinforcement rings on both sides of the holes you made. Then you should have a parachute ready to be strung into your rocket. If you used a garbage bag you will have two parachutes so you won't need to make a second one.

Painting a Rocket
The first step in painting a rocket successfully is to put on primer. The primer helps hold the rocket together, so doesn't fall part. It also helps when it falls from the sky, deploys a parachute, hits the ground and lands safely. Also helps the paint stick to the rocket so it won't fall off, rub off, or drip on your kitty cat. Here's some good colors that we think are good: silver and chrome yellow (kind of goldish). To get an even coat of paint, keep the spray paint far from the rocket so that you can get more distance and more paint on the rocket. It also helps for little short streaks. When you want short streaks just hold the rocket 1 to 2 feet away from the spray paint and start spraying in a line. After you're done painting, it's a good idea to let it dry somewhere where your cat doesn't swallow any paint.

Hard, Easy, and Fun!
The hardest part about making the rocket was making the engine block. It was hard to build the engine block because you had to build the engine block and you had to build the interior diameter mold. The easiest part to build was the nose cone. The nose cone was the easiest part because we just had to pop on the nose cone. The most fun part about building the rocket is also the nose cone. We just popped on the nose cone. I'm looking forward to shooting off this rocket, I hope you can shoot it off too!
Double Gluing
Double gluing is a way of strengthening your fins. You want your fins to be strong so they don't break off when they land or especially when they are in the air. The first step of double gluing is to glue the fins and then you let them dry. Glue them a second time and let them dry again. When you are double gluing you have to smear the glue into the cracks of your fins so that they stays strong. Then you're ready to launch.

Centering Rings and Engine Blocks
First, we will make the centering rings. First, I will tell you how to cut the toilet paper roll. Cut the toilet paper roll up the long side, then you cut it into strips.
Then you glue the strips to make the centering rings on the motor mount. Repeat until the centering ring is as big as your rocket tube.
Now, I am going to tell you how we made an engine block. First, we made an inner block mold. First you take some toilet paper roll and you wrap it around a pencil until you get the right diameter of the inside your motor.
And then you stick your inner block mold into a motor.
And then you wrap your toilet paper strips around your inner block mold until it is the same size as the motor mount.
Then glue engine block in the motor mount.

How to Make a Motor Mount
Mark 7 CM on each short side of the card stock sheet. You want to do it carefully that it is the right size.
Connect the two marks with a straight edge.
Cut along the line.
Roll the strip around a used engine. This makes it so it will be the right shape.
Unroll most of the card stock until there is only a one wrap around it. This is so it can be glued easily.
Push the engine so that it sticks out slightly, so we can tape it and it will not unroll fully.
Tape Exposed end firmly with masking tape.
Push engine so it slightly sticks out the other end.
Tape exposed end firmly with masking tape.
Layer inside of the unwrapped card stock with a very thin layer of glue.
Roll card stock around the engine.
Secure with masking tape and let it dry.
We hope you enjoy your motor mount.
